Journal
Our journal, Cultural & Social History: The Journal of the Social History Society, was launched in 2004 and is published by Taylor and Francis.
It is a leading space for dialogue between social and cultural historians. The journal aims to advance the discipline by emphasising that ‘the social’ and ‘the cultural’ are mutually informing and constitutive.
The ‘&’ in our title signifies an understanding that cultural forces confer meaning and that an appreciation of these forces can help us to better understand the social experience of individuals and groups in the past. Similarly, it represents our understanding of culture as a product of social practice and therefore something that is at the heart of society itself.
The journal is edited by Brodie Waddell (Birkbeck), Grace Huxford (Bristol) and Isabella Jackson (Trinity College Dublin), with Kelly Boyd (Institute of Historical Research) as Reviews Editor.
